Promoting children’s participation in primary schools

Challenge

According to the United Nations, children have the right to freely express their views on all matters and decisions that affect them, and to have those views taken into account at all levels of society. It is the right of every child, without exception. Participatory processes encourage the development of key competencies that will help kids become active citizens able to communicate their ideas and opinions and exercise their duties and rights.

From the Deputy Direction of Citizen Participation of the Generalitat de Catalunya, we were asked to turn a draft about participatory experiences into a digital product that would promote these types of processes in primary schools. For this, TSVC reviewed the contents, created the graphic line and the design of the product, adapting it to the recipient, i.e. teachers and direction teams. The result was La Recol·lecta (The Harvest), an interactive manual that provides tools to facilitate children’s participation and foster a democratic culture in schools. The manual includes a theoretical framework, a case study, and different worksheets to encourage the activation of participatory processes.
